1) buck off the skylight soffit to the wall edge of the skylight (where the area was cut out) and install new gutters on both sides of the house.
2) recover the skylight portion and install new gutters on both sides of the house.
3) redo all aluminum in the skylight and provide a gutter system that allows for water runoff on both sides of the skylight opening (currently there is only a gutter system on the outside portion of the roof overhang but not at the inside edge of the skylight). Install a new gutter on the other side of the roof as well as it is currently non-existent.
Our main goal is to increase the size of our pantry by opening our existing pantry into our office space. We want to create a command station for our children to work there as well. The office space is underutilized. Our plan is to move a wall at our entrance which borders the office to enlarge our entrance and tile it. We want to remove the closet and remerge it into a working closet. We would like to renovate our bathroom on the main floor to make it more usable (remove pedestal sink and replace with vanity.) We also want to re image our living room by adding cabinets and replacing the gas fireplace and tile as well as the landing to our basement. We also would like some design ideas that would complement our house. There are a few minor electrical changes we would like to make as well as some drywall repair and painting.
I purchased a home recently and will take ownership very soon. It is a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house and about 1400 sqft. I would like some work completed and am wondering about costs:
- Half of the basement is finished; the other should be dry-walled, painted, etc. with carpeting
- A walk-in closet needs to be built in the master bedroom which would require bathroom restructuring for 2 upstairs bathrooms
- 3 windows need be replaced
- Space needs to be created in the master bedroom for washer/dryer
- The house interior walls and garage door needs to be painted

There are many reasons why you may want to go through a general contractor: building, renovating or even extending your home.
No matter your project, we can recommend the specialists that best match your request with professionalism, speed, and a complete respect of your ideas. A general contractor has considerable skills in many areas of construction, making it advisable to call one for large-scale multidisciplinary work.
In order to plan your project in the best way possible, it is important to keep the following points in mind:
Do not mistakenly confuse these two experts: they do not have the same skills or the same qualifications! A general contractor has all the qualifications to supervise any type of work. A specialist contractor will only have specific skills in certain areas. These skills are certified by the RBQ.
In order to avoid problems with misunderstanding each other, make sure you fully understand your general contractor. Be clear about your project and don’t hesitate to go over your expectations in detail. In doing so, you ensure that the expert has a clear vision of the work and your satisfaction will be guaranteed!
Depending on the professional and the availability of their teams, a contractor may choose to hire companies to subcontract part of the work: roofing, electricity, foundations, etc. If you are concerned, do not hesitate to speak with your expert: he can reassure you about his choice of subcontractors and their skillset.
One of the advantages of a general contractor is that his skills allow him to manage team coordination, inventory of materials and deadlines. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about the logistics of your project.
